The Aussie X hosts the Macquarie Footy Cup in Toronto

What a blast we all had at the annual Macquarie Footy Cup (Aussie Rules Football) in Toronto with 300+ middle-school students from across the city hosted by sports group The AussieX (www.theAussieX.com) on Thursday June 6th.

AussieX team with teen TV star Luke Bilyk  Pictured with the AussieX coaches and mascots is Luke Bilyk (centre) star of Canada’s award-winning teen TV drama, Degrassi.

Big thanks to every god and deity known to man for ensuring the unseasonal heavy rain held off until all the newspaper & tv news crews had left the event! Congrats to organizers Kaela Bree and Emile Studham who were interviewed and helped promote Australian sports (footy, cricket & netball) to the kids as well as media. CP24 Breakfast Show started the day with us at 6am and Kaela and Emile were invited into the CBC radio studios that evening for a live interview on the rise of popularity for Aussie Rules.

The koala and ‘roo mascots posed with TV star Luke who chatted with some of the kids who swarmed him during the meet-n-greet autograph & photo session.

Addressing the troopsLuke in an AussieX sandwich!

smiles all aroundAs the day drew to an end, sponsor rep Laura joined Luke, Kaela, Emile and two young star-struck fans to say “Good on ya, mate!”
