My friend in Sri Lanka, Keshiya, has sent me another travel & tourism report, this time from a fabulous elegant resort on the south coast designed with a black and white theme (very Great Gatsby-ish). After reading her story and looking at her photos, all I can say is…I am sooo jealous! I would love to spend time there myself. Oh well, I’ll keep saving up my nickels and dimes and you never know, this time next year I could be posting my own travel diary from Coco Tangalla. Enjoy her story….
Having fallen in love with the Southern coast of Sri Lanka on previous holidays, we picked the Tangalle area in the hope of finding a new beach destination. Tangalle is 78kms or one and a half hours car ride from the city of Galle, and it offers a romantic atmosphere that will have you returning again and again for a relaxing and inspiring respite from the harsh city environs.
We stayed at COCO TANGALLA which is a holiday paradise with Indian Ocean front views. The villa’s strikingly stylish yet simple white walls and black furniture are accessorized with flashes of bright colour and the tastefully executed colonial architecture blends well with the contemporary interior giving an unobtrusive yet exotic ambiance.
Our suite was chic and comfortable, complete with a simple balcony (below) and endless views of the sun and sea. The bathroom was well equipped with amenities including the fragrant shampoo, conditioner and body wash in cinnamon, milk & toffee flavours which I fell in love with instantly.
Our meals consisted of simple fare (lots of fresh seafood) with subtle hints of spice, all sourced locally and elegantly served by the charming wait staff. Breakfasts were very European and I thoroughly enjoyed the typical English “fry up” featuring scrambled eggs, bacon, mushroom, tomatoes and toast.
I chose to sit by the pool on one of the bright blue sunbeds (below) to catch up on some reading while enjoying a frosty fruity tropical cocktail. But if you want to exert just a little less energy, try a soothing massage or one of the variety of therapies and wellness techniques offered at the villa. Treatments include Ayurvedic massage with healing oils, body scrubs with locally-grown herbs, or perhaps a Thai massage for your body and Indian massage for your head.
At Coco Tangalla, guests can book a single room or the entire house and the location is close to wildlife, cultural and heritage areas such as the Uda Walawe reserve for elephants and migrating birds, the Turtle Conservation Area at Rekawa, the ocean blowhole at Kudawella and the Buddhist temple complex built into the mountain at Mulgirigala are just 10 minutes away. Or you can hop in a tuk-tuk to the fishing town of Tangalle with its bustling market and harbour that perfectly capture the lifestyle and people of Tangalle.
I will definitely be returning to Coco Tangalla to enjoy the hospitality, the serenity, the cuisine and the spectacular ocean views. If you would like to learn more about this stunning exotic resort, visit their website: http://www.cocotangalla.com
