Gettysburg Battleground Painting – Day 1

Yesterday, July 4th, award-winning artist BRUCE LAWES set up his tent studio overlooking the awesome battlegrounds of Gettysburg and commenced work on his giant canvas of the legendary cavalry charge 150 years ago being commemorated this Fourth of July long weekend.

photo 7Painting in front of 100,000 park visitors over this weekend is pretty intense – add to that 135 canons blasting all day, nearly 500 horses charging about the grounds and 10,000 costumed reenactors shooting, shouting and fighting, Bruce has his work cut out for him. But  by the end of the weekend, he should have a pretty full canvas from which to complete a commemorative masterwork that will be auctioned to benefit the historic US Civil War battleground preservation organizations.   www.bklawesart.com
