Always the perfect hostess, the amazing CHRISSY NEWTON of www.VOCABCommunications.com and her fabulous hostesses (incl. Alessia – fashionable in red&black) welcomed MuchMusic Video Awards guests to the UMBRA store just around the corner from the MuchMusic studios and awards stages yesterday.
Chrissy’s parties are always the most upbeat, fun and schmooze-worthy events so I was thrilled to invite along some of the artists I publicize including Vancouver-based hip-hop recording artist KRIS MONICO and his manager SAM OTTIVIANO of EMG Canada, emerging pop/Latin singer DEENA and Degrassi tv series star SARAH FISHER who will soon be releasing her first major pop single, Girl Code.
I arrived early to scope out the scene and as soon as I stepped in the front door, the party was on! Lovely welcome by Alessia and the ladies (and hunky photographer Sean) wearing event sponsor MARY KAY t-shirts. Don’t confuse this fabulous new Mary Kay with your nanna’s make-up – they have completely rebranded and updated their image and have a great range of fashion-fwd cosmetics and skin care products, including an exciting men’s line. Both Sarah and Deena spent a great deal of time chatting with Natalie Ortiz (Communications & PR) and Marijana Klapcic (Supvr, Communications, PR & Creative) and all us girls (incl. my trusty photographer GABRIELLA) were given luscious lipsticks and tinted balms as treats. Thank you, Mary Kay. www.MaryKay.ca
I met up with Personal Trainer and Life Coach AVIVA REIMER who I had met a couple of months ago at her own fab soiree, and this time she was joined by her guest, trainer and author MICHAEL S. KWAO. They both chatted non-stop with the guests but I was able to grab a few photo opps with them and my clients. www.perfect-fit.ca
But Chrissy is never too busy to support a good cause and she has, in fact, launched her own charitable endeavour: Meet Me in Africa
JESSICA SCHWARTZ, who I met recently at Williams-Sonoma in Yorkville (see blog post May 18) where she showcased her unique SWEET SUSHI, was there, too. Yummmmm. Her display was so mouth-watering, even MMVA nominee Kardinal Offishall came in and walked off with a tray for his own party! Bravo, Jessica. www.sweetsushi.ca
The handsome and hirsute dudes of BRICKWORKS CIDERHOUSE were very popular with their chilled refreshing cider made from Ontario apples. Thank you for keeping us all cool! www.theciderhouse.ca
BANOO by MeSa offered some unique jewelry and adornments and Co-Founder & designer JEN MEHRNOUSH ZOMEDERIS helped Deena and Sarah select some sparklies. www.trulyyoursmesa.com
The fellas had some cool fashion offerings, too, courtesy of SULTAN SANDUR of JUSTSULTAN. Even the ladies were trying on some bowties! www.justsultan.com
D’ya need some real cool shades? KINGS OF PAST offers luxury vintage eyewear, using authentic never-worn frames with new lenses. You gotta check ‘em out in person like I did! www.kingsofpast.com
Have you heard about LOOSE BUTTON, the monthly subscription gift box that is sent to you filled with samples and special treats? Fun way to try all the new stuff before the rest of the world! ANGELA CHOW and her team spent a lot of time chatting with the guests – betcha they signed up a few celebs, too. www.loosebutton.com
Did I mention the great DJs? When I walked in, I heard some great tunes, courtesy of the too cute GARRICK BISHOP of www.djb-easy.com then as the afternoon transitioned the amazing SAMANTHA MICHELLE ( www.Samantha-michelle.com ) took over the turntables. Any DJ who can mix Dolly Parton, Prince and the soundtracks from Top Gun and Dirty Dancing one after the other is great by my standards! Chrissy managed to grab a few moments to dance up a storm with Samantha and the rest of the guests.
On-site live streaming interviews were being done by the groovy crew from www.BestFan.com . Here’s a very professional collective of videographers, interviewers and crew…I hope to work with them again. They da best! Here, host DEVO interviews Sarah, Deena and Kris then got them to pose in front of the BEST FAN photo wall – thanks, you guys are my new BFs…LOL!
Couldn’t get near the display for RAW JUICE GURU as they were busy busy busy all the time. Sarah really liked it, as did all the guests. Follow them on Twitter @RawJuiceGuru
Throughout the event, everyone stopped and browsed the shelves and walls of the UMBRA store – so many cool things for your home. Even Sarah had to pick up a few things on her way out. Drop in yourself to 165 John St, just a little N of Queen, and say hi to the helpful staff.
Here are few more random shots from the event …..
Thank you to all the sponsors for making the afternoon a great success and keeping us all entertained. Big standing O for Chrissy and her crew!
