What a lovely way to spend a Saturday afternoon…surrounded by beautiful art and friendly artists. After seeing the announcement of Ian Busher‘s upcoming exhibition at the MJG Gallery on Queen St East, Toronto, I put out a call to gallery owner & artist, Mark J. Gleberzon, asking that he put a hold on one particular piece for me – an indigo blue fox silhouette on a turquoise blue background. When I learned that Mark had Ian down at the gallery hanging the work, I hurried down to visit…see if you can pick out my foxy (below)
It’s approx. 12″ square mixed media with natural wood frame. While I was there, neighbours of mine from Bloor & Jarvis dropped by, too, and purchased the polar bear (below left) which was another favourite of mine.
Ian’s work is very contemporary Canadian and some pieces I can already see in friends’ lofts and corporate boardrooms. Gotta spread the word about this artist (while we can still afford him!!) so please feel free to share and re-blog this story. Here’s Ian (below) posting with one of his large format pieces…..I love the big black bear, don’t you? Grrrrrrr
Mark is hosting an artist’s reception for Ian this coming Thursday – here’s the gallery promo:
“MJG Gallery is pleased to present “See You Again” featuring new and dynamic work by Toronto-based Ian Busher. A little bit Canadiana mixed with a contemporary, urban edge, Ian’s work has been gaining spark since he premiered this series earlier in the year at The Artist Project in Toronto. Ian’s mediums include industrial materials like treated steel, wood studs, spray paints and hand-cut stencils. One piece incorporates a photographic-background. “See you Again” runs from Saturday, September 27th (for you early birds) but officially runs October 1st-13th with the Vernissage on Thursday, October 2nd, 6-9pm. RSVP to attend: email@example.com “
Below is one of my favourite large format pieces, a collaboration of both Ian’s and Mark’s creativity. Bravo….and thank you, MJG Gallery, for supporting Canadian artists!
